Sam Bigio is a designer and creative director based in Miami. He holds a master’s degree in history of Decorative Arts and Design from Parsons and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

In 2018, Bigio founded Monstruosus, a studio dedicated to designing and crafting premium ceramic planters for use indoors and out. Bigio created Monstruosus when he couldn’t find minimalist, matte-glazed planters for photographs he styled as a style director for the venerable furniture brand, Herman Miller. As a result, he pulled on his own knowledge as a ceramics collector and embarked on a mission to develop expertly crafted ceramic planters whose designs reference Mid-Century American modernism, while also letting the natural beauty of plants to take center stage.
