What's Cookin' with Everything Nice Bowls

We asked the designers of some of your favorite friendly objects to share what’s cookin’ in their kitchens lately. For our second recipe, Sophie Lou Jacobsen shares the ultimate comfort food dish that she grew up on. Get the recipe below. Bon appétit!

The Most Simple Bolognese

Makes about 4 servings

INGREDIENTS

• EVOO
• 3/4 - 1lb ground beef (depending on how meaty you want it! Best when fresh from butcher)
• 1 18oz can peeled tomatoes (preferable San Marzano)
• Salt
• Sugar (optional)
• Pepper
• Freshly grated Parmesan (to taste, I like a lot!)
•
375g of Spaghetti

STEPS

Step 1
Heat EVOO in a large heavy set pan on medium. Add ground beef, break up with a wooden spoon and let brown. Sprinkle with salt to bring out the liquid from the meat.

Step 2
Once the meat has browned, add in the tomatoes. Stir and let simmer. Add more salt to taste, some pepper, and a pinch of sugar if the tomato’s are tasting too acidic.

Step 3
Sometimes, I add splash of balsamic vinegar (tiny splash!), if it’s around. Let simmer on low until all the flavors have melded and the sauce has thickened, adjusting seasoning as you go (I would wait until the sauce has had some time to cook before adding too much seasoning, because the flavors come out as they simmer).

Step 4
In the meantime, boil water and cook pasta to al dente. Drain and preserve some pasta water.

Step 5
Add cooked pasta to pan with sauce, adding a small splash of pasta water. Mix well and serve (or! If you prefer you can plate the spaghetti and spoon the sauce on top).
Sprinkle with flakey sea salt and a healthy amount of parm.

Enjoy!
